神在伊甸園外造男造女,就是按照祂自己的形像造人。接著神栽種了一個園子,然後把亞當男人和女人安置在園中(創五2)。這是聖經裡頭一次提到樂園。「伊甸園」的意思是欣喜、愉快;那是一個活花園,活「殿」,特別為人所預備的。後來因為罪進入他們心中,導致他們被趕出這個活的家,他們只好建造自己的房子;然而卻是一個「死的家」。在他們犯罪之後,亞當稱他的妻子為「夏娃」;雖然起初神給“他們”起名亞當(創五1,2)
